Increasing army welfare services
WASP is gearing itself up to assist with the anticipated surge in the number of veterans and their families needing and seeking help long into the 21st century, as a consequence of the redundancy programme in the Armed Forces, and the time lag of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, both of which will have profound negative effects on veterans and their families.
Securing a permanent base
Purchasing from Lambeth Borough Council, the building which has housed WASP’s HQ since 1984, is a strategic priority. Its acquisition will be a fitting legacy from WASP’s founders to present and future Members of the British Armed Forces’ African and Caribbean Military Community and a permanent base from which to pursue WASP’s aims.
Leaving a permanent legacy
WASP’s Trustees have launched a fundraising appeal to establish and maintain in perpetuity for the benefit of the public, a Memorial to East and West African and Caribbean Servicemen and Servicewomen who served in the Armed Forces of the Crown, whether by land, sea or in the air during the World Wars, 1914-1918 and 1939-1945.
Estalishing a military heritage centre
WASP’s Trustees are actively planning to establish a Military Heritage Centre in its HQ, to document and preserve the contributions of African and Caribbean people to world peace and freedom and to educate the public concerning the courage, heroism and sacrifices made by the British Armed Forces’ African and Caribbean Military Community.
